Spreading My Wings

This bird symbolizes me as I try to metaphorically spread my wings and experience the world on my own. The feathers of this South African song bird are colorful and bright, a cheerful picture of contrast. The different colors represent parts of me that, though they seem contradictory, fit together to make up my eclectic personality.

Natural Fragrance

A mountain by the sea. Its my ideal location, both a beach with the smell of the ocean and a cool ocean breeze, and a mountainside with the scent of pine trees and that distinct alpine feeling. The mere memory of the tangy, salty smell of the sea makes me think of happy hours spent with my family, swimming, playing in the water, or just sitting on the beach, watching the waves. Next to that is the imposing mountain scene, which is reminiscent of times I’ve spent on the trails of the Shanendoa Mountains, hiking and camping in the open, surrounded by the smells of nature.

A Multiplicity of Sensations

The crunch of an apple, the sweet smell of an orange, and the luscious taste of a ripe kiwi are some of my favorite things. They are so beautiful and tasty at the same time. This platter of fruit from my family’s New Year’s Day party, to me, is a perfect balance of different textures, colors, and tastes which come together superbly. These fruits are like an amazing painting in my mouth.

The Soft Caress of Wind

The winds cools, and gently strokes your face as you walk down the street on a warm summer day. The sight of a tree or a flag whipping in the wind always makes me want to stop what I’m doing and go outside. The wind makes me feel powerful, as if anything is possible for me. Without wind, life would be unbearably still. Wind promotes change, provides energy, and moves clouds so that we can have rain. It is an essential part of life.

The Uniqueness of Sound

Vibrant sound and inspiring energy is what can be found in the music of the Malealea band, as seen in this picture. They perform on home made instruments and are sometimes accompanied by the Malealea children’s choir. I have never heard more energetic and simply different music. They are lively and fun and when I listen to their music it makes me want to get up and dance.
